How to use Chia seeds
Here are some ideas for using chia. Chia are a seed the Mayan warriors carried for quick protein and energy. They also contain some omega 3 fatty acids which is good. The black chia is more preferable than the white chia as some of the white chia seeds tend to be too hard in my experience and not as easy to soften with liquid.
Chia Beverage: You can add 2 tablespoons to 8 oz water water and squeeze a little fruit juice into for flavor, stir it right away and refrigerate. 3-6 hours later stir again. They will develop a gelatinous ring around the edge and that gives an interesting texture to the beverage. You can adjust the amount of chia for the consistency you like to drink. Stores sell Kombucha with a small amount of chia in them for $5-$6 per bottle! It’s a snack in a bottle essentially.
Chia Pudding: Fill a jar 1/3 high with chia seeds. Then fill with your preferred milk (I like to use the unsweetened coconut milk from carton). Sweeten to taste- I prefer a few drops of Latanko Monk Fruit extract or some almond extract for sweetening without adding carb calories but you can use a little honey, organic sugar, coconut sugar, stevia, erythritol or xylitol if you wish. You can also add some vanilla extract and.or 2 T cocoa powder per 8 oz jar if you prefer these flavors. Stir the chia into solution and refrigerate. Stir again a few hours later and you will have pudding likely in 4-6 hours (or overnight). If you want to top it with something try unsweetened coconut flakes, cocoa nibs, crushed almonds or pecans. Eating 4 heaping spoons of the pudding or so daily makes it unlikely a person will be constipated.
