GENOMIC
TESTING
This
helps to highly individualize your
prevention plan and is personalized
medicine at it's best. There are
various panels available at Dr.
Chene's office to check for risk
factors and genetic tendencies
that you can do something about.
Cardiogenomics panel
is for heart, stroke, and some forms of Alzheimer's
risk.
Detoxigenomics panel check's
your liver's genes for the ability
to detoxify the chemicals in our
environment as well as medications.
This is particularly important as
studies have demonstrated that this
is not only a risk for degenerative
neurological diseases (such as Parkinson's)
but also cancer risk.
Immunogenomics panel
is for inflammation and the immune
system.
Osteogenomics for
osteoporosis
risk from genetic tendencies.
All panels are run at a fully
accredited state of the art laboratory
and confidentiality is protected
by law so that insurance companies
cannot even supeona this data.
ULTRASOUND SCREENING OF NECK ARTERIES
Checks
the
carotid
arteries to help reduce the risk
of stroke.
ULTRASOUND SCREENING OF ABDOMINAL
AORTA
Checks
for aneurysm. This important
to know about ahead of time as
they can be repaired to prevent
ruptures, which are usually fatal.
ANKLE-BRACHIAL INDEX
Measures
the ratio or arm and leg blood
pressure with ultrasound which
can be helpful for detecting vascular
disease and heart risk.
OXIDATIVE STRESS
This
checks for the type and amount of "free
radical" damage that is occurring
in your body. Free radicals
are unstable molecules that studies
have shown increase the risk
for cancer, heart disease, stroke,
cataracts, kidney failure, some
forms of arthritis, macular
degeneration (loss of sight in
old age), wrinkles etc. Since
this is related with so many
parameters of unhealthy aging,
I recommend it for everyone
at least once a year. Dr.
Chene can tell you what you need
to lower your oxidative stress.
HOMOCYSTEINE
This
is an amino acid that is undesirably
high in an estimated 25% of the
population. Too much of this puts
you at higher risk for heart disease,
stroke, and some forms of dementia, including alzheimers.
This is well supported in the scientific
literature, however as the
treatment is natural there has
been minimal if any attention paid
to this by most clinicians
because there is no drug being
promoted. This
is a risk factor that is generally
easy and inexpensive to fix. Dr.
Chene prefers that her patients
be at the low risk level rather
than average level and will tell
you what can do to bring the level
down.
VAP PANEL
The VAP (Vertical Auto Profile), is a better cholesterol test that provides valuable information about "light" and "dense" particle ratios that can identify hidden heart disease risk. The VAP Test identifies twice as many people at risk than routine cholesterol tests, including those with inherited risk factors who often develop premature heart disease. Between 30-50% of persons who suffer heart attacks have a "normal" cholesterol test by routine testing. The additional information in the VAP profile improves the detection of heart disease risk from about 40 percent to 90 percent, and provides a foundation for patient-specific treatment plans.
FIBRINOGEN
This
checks for the amount of fibrin
in the blood. Too much fibrin
can cause blood to clot too readily
and increase the risk of heart
attack, venous thrombosis, pulmonary
embolism, stroke from blood clots.
INSULIN LEVEL
High levels
of this hormone not only put you
at risk for diabetes, obesity, heart
disease, and some forms of cancer
as well. This hormone level
can be improved with a specific way
of eating.
LIPOPROTIEN A
Heart Disease is
the leading cause of death in our
country and therefore we try to screen
everyone for all modifiable risk
factors such as this one.
C-REACTIVE PROTIEN
This
is the High-sensitivity form of
CRP which is considered a risk
factor for heart disease.
LIVER PANEL
Can check for hidden
liver disease and help alert for
problems with liver function.
METABOLIC PANEL
Includes
Sodium, Potassium, Glucose, Carbon
Dioxide, BUN and Creatinine (kidney
function), etc.
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE
Screens
for thyroid problems.
FREE T4
This
checks the part of thyroxine (a
thyroid hormone) that is active
in the blood. It's important to
check the "free" portion
as most of this hormone is bound
to protein and therefore inactive.
FREE T3
This
checks the active portion of the
thyroid hormone that is able to
act on the cell. Some people do
not convert the T4 to T3 and will
still feel hypothyroid in spite
of
normal TSH and Free T4.
CBC
Is a complete blood count with
white blood cells, red blood cells,
platelets, indices, and measurement
of the different types of white blood
cells (lymphocytes,basophils, eosinophils,
monocytes, neutrophils etc. that
are necessary for immune function)
PSA
The prostate specific antigen
helps detect prostate cancer.
CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING
We
use the Thin-Prep type "Pap" test
as this has a higher accuracy
rate and is better at differentiating
early cervical lesions.
HPV
Testing
for high risk human papilloma viruses
is also available.

AMAS
(Anti-Malignan Antibody Screen)
This test is used for early cancer detection. According
to published studies in peer reviewed journals, it
is statistically more accurate than any other tumor
marker we currently have. It may detect cancer up to
19 months before it is detectable by CT scan etc. This
test is used at some of the large corporations as part
of their annual executive wellness testing as early
detection often means higher survival rate when it
comes to cancer. This is also of use to check if a
cancer has been completely removed surgically and to
monitor for early recurrence in cancer survivors.
HEART SCAN-CT for calcium score
(computerized
tomography)
Measures the amount of calcified plaque of the arteries
in the heart. This is a non invasive test
useful for detecting some cases of symptomless heart
disease. Remember that a heart attack is often
the first symptom in many people.
POST MENOPAUSAL HORMONE PANEL
Checks the active portion of the hormones, estrogen,
estrone, estriol, progesterone, testosterone and
DHEA. The active (or free fraction) part of the
hormone is what's meaningful as the total level
does not show the active amount.
FEMALE HORMONE PANEL
For pre-menopausal women and tests up to 11 samples
of the 6 above hormones to show what the levels
are at various times in the cycle.
MALE HORMONE PANELS
Checks the active portion of the hormones testosterone,
progesterone, DHEA, and also metabolites of testosterone,
androstendedione, and estrogen.
ESTROGEN METABOLISM TEST
This checks whether your body is metabolizing the
estrogen (we still have some even post menopause)
down the preferred healthy 2-OH pathway.
Research shows that women with a ration of less
than 2 have a higher risk of breast cancer. This
is a useful test because we can help this pathway
if necessary and thereby reduce a woman's risk
of the most common female cancer.
CORTISOL LEVEL TEST
This can check your body's stress hormone. This is
also helpful for detecting some causes of chronic
fatigue or episodic fatigue during the day.
NEUROTRANSMITTER TESTING
Checks levels of chemicals that affect brain and
nervous system function. Replenishing the natural
precursors of these when low can help reduce anxiety,
depression and appetite. It can also help balance
disorders of ADD and hyperactivity in many cases.
ENERGY CYCLE TESTING
This test checks each step of the Citric Acid (formerly
called Kreb's) Cycle for energy metabolism in your
body. If there is too much of a certain metabolite
it indicates a lack of the co-factors nutrients
necessary to go on to the next step. This test
is very useful in cases of chronic fatigue and
fatigue in general.
FOOD ALLERGY TESTING
This is helpful for many cases of Irritable Bowel
Syndrome, inflammation of the bowel, allergy and
some cases of fatigue. The IgG is tested to check
for delayed sensitivity as this is the type of
allergy that is hard for people to determine themselves
(the immediate reaction is usually easy for patients
to figure out).
CELIAC TESTING
This is a stool test for gluten intolerance. It is
important to detect it early, ideally before the
intestinal lining becomes damaged.
COMPLETE DIGESTIVE STOOL ANALYSIS
This test is to check digestion of protein, fats,
carbohydrates and byproducts of yeast and unhealthy
bacteria overgrowth . It checks many parameters
and is very comprehensive.
COMPLETE PARASITOLOGY TESTING
This testing can detect the parasites, eggs, and
antigens to various parasites and is done by a
lab known for it's excellence in this area as accuracy
of these tests is often dependant on lab experience
and frequency of tests run.
CANDIDA ANTIBODIES
This tests for antibodies to candida and if levels
are high, treatment will be recommended. Complete
stool testing is also available for this with cultures.
URINE N-TELOPEPTIDE (NTX TEST)
This test checks for active bone loss to determine
if what a person is doing is adequate to prevent
further loss. The Bone Density Test recommended
for women age 50 and over tells what loss has already
occurred but doesn't answer the question of whether
it is still occurring or if treatment is working
early on.
FREE
FATTY ACID TESTING
This tests the levels of the essential fatty acids
in your blood and the ratios. Fatty acid balance is
important for heart health and to reduce inflammation
as well as brain and nerve function. |
